Internet access policy

The Montpelier Public Library provides free internet access to support educational, informational, and research needs of the community.

Please note that the internet contains a wide range of content and viewpoints. Some websites may include inaccurate, controversial, or potentially offensive material. It is the responsibility of each user to evaluate the information they access for accuracy, relevance, and appropriateness.

The Library uses filtering software to help limit access to inappropriate material, particularly for minors. Adult patrons (ages 18 and over) may request to have filters temporarily disabled. Parents or legal guardians who wish to allow their minor children unfiltered internet access must indicate this by completing the relevant section of the library card application.

Users are expected to use the Library’s internet resources responsibly and respectfully. Accessing inappropriate websites or misusing library equipment may result in the following consequences:

  • First Offense: Verbal warning and loss of computer privileges for the rest of the day.

  • Second Offense: Suspension of computer access for two (2) weeks.

  • Third Offense: Permanent loss of computer privileges.

The Montpelier Public Library reserves the right to monitor computer usage and may suspend or deny access at any time to ensure compliance with this policy and the safety of all patrons.
